I Will be writing about the Ten Most Tumultuous Days of My Life shortly.
The Auteur, 1B and I returned home Tuesday after spending the last few days in town – with The Old Man’s funeral.
Going home, I was thinking about one of my all-time favorite shows, How I met your Mother. Around the middle of the series, Marshall (played by Jason Segel) Ericson loses his father. He spends a few episodes back home with his mother. After some soul searching and talks with his friends, Marshall realizes that he’s hiding from his adult life and decides to return to his life in New York City.
I have to admit, I was a little reluctant to return to work Wednesday. I even felt a little weird coming home on Tuesday. It wasn’t that I wasn’t ready to get back to my everyday life; it was more than by moving on, saying goodbye to the stuff surrounding my Dad’s death and funeral, it was like I was saying goodbye to him yet again. I just wasn’t ready to move forward.
I did pull myself together and went back to work today; but not after sending a pretty scathing e-mail to Jabba. The Kid ended up not coming up for The Old Man’s funeral. I was prepared to book him a round-trip flight, but Jabba nixed that, citing that she wasn’t comfortable with him flying. As a result, The Kid wasn’t here.
I’ve let a lot of things slide with Jabba in the past: the way she is raising our son and the way she has tried to dictate things to me post-divorce. Thanks to some gentle reminders from The Auteur – and Jabba’s refusal to allow The Kid to fly alone – I am no longer letting anything slide. Jabba has woken the proverbial giant. once again, she needs to be careful what she wishes for…
LeRoy called. We talked about how there will be changes going forward, Mother potentially moving down the proverbial road, holidays not being as extravagant. All that stuff that typically follows once the dust has settled after a death.
