Unfortunately, neither this story, nor this statistic, are very surprising – particularly after the onset of COVID-19 and the lockdowns that followed.
Covid was a game changer. It affected every single one of us in one way or another. for many people, the lock down, some cells were enough to make people go mad. Then, a lot of us lost friends, family, and loved ones to the virus.
Even the states that are listed as hotspots for depression are not surprising. Some of these places have either social or economic challenges, and in some instances, the weather plays a huge part as well. I know I have more bouts of depression during the winter than I do during the rest of the year.
