How do you celebrate holidays?
When someone says “holidays” my mind immediately jumps to religious holidays. Obviously, not all holidays are literal “holy days”. Another example of this would would European cultures where holiday is a another way of saying “vacation”.
Like most people, I spend holidays with my family. When that’s not an option, i like to spend the time with my closest friends.

However, for 8 years i lived roughly 800 miles from my immediate family. I’m fact the only time I would make it home would be for baseball’s Opening Day, and maybe Christmas. However, during that time, I was also building my own family. I was married and X1 and I were expecting our first son. Since it was just the two – eventually three – of us, it was important that we started to create our own traditions as well.
So today, I spend my holidays however, time, proximity, money, and peace of mind will afford me to. In an ideal world, I would have both my boys with me for holidays. That’s not always realistic, however, one out of two isn’t bad. As long as we’re able to talk to each other, we know that we’re together in spirit. Sometimes that’s just enough.
