My boys

What are you most proud of in your life?

The easy answer to this question for me is to say that I am most proud of my children. And it really is true.

Kid 1 is 16 now. He’s driving a car, he has a job, a girlfriend, honors level classes, and great grades in school. He’s competed nationally in gymnastics and he may take it to the next level after high school. Recently, he began the process of checking out colleges to attend after graduation. As far as higher education is concerned he is “swinging for the fences“. He’s got some big name schools in mind. He’s accomplished so much more by 16 than I ever did and I could not be more proud of him.

“You will see my life through your eyes, as your life will be seen through mine. The son becomes the father and the father becomes the son.”

Kid 2 is doing very well himself. He’s 8 now (can you believe it?). School is, likewise going well. As smart as I know he is, he has these moments where he’ll say something brilliant, seemingly out of mid air. I’ll think to myself: How the hell did he know that? He possesses that quiet intelligence. Kid 2 is also on the autism spectrum, which I may have mentioned previously. Some days, that’s a struggle. He’ll says things like “I wish I wasn’t like this”; but by and large, he takes things in stride. It’s fun to watch him establish his own identity.

Most people believe, as do I, that the ultimate goal of being a parent is for your children to have a better life than you did. It may be too early to make that call; but things are looking good for my kids so far.
