Who are the biggest influences in your life?
I feel like this has become my go-to answer lately but my biggest influence in my life (at least at the moment) has been The Old Man.
This isn’t to take anything away from Mother. It’s just that the older I get, the more of my dad’s mannerisms and mindsets seem to pop up.
Besides his pragmatic mindset and his sense of humor, one trait of my dad’s that seems to have stuck with me is the way he (and now I) will say “How ya doin’?” when making a friendly, yet informal ice-breaking greeting to someone. No, neither of us says it in the inflection that Joey said it with on Friends, hence the emphasis on “doin”
It’s one of those silly, little nuance things that you just notice about yourself sometimes. It was never something I actually intended on doing. It just came out like that one day. And then it was probably a few months later where it occurred to me, I thought “wow, that’s the same with the old man used to greet people”.
It never ceases to amaze me how someone’s words, expressions thought, even their mannerisms, are hardwired into our DNA and just manifest themselves one day
Kid 1 got into town last night for the holiday. It’s going to be an all-too-short visit so I’m going to keep this post brief. I made my heartfelt holiday wishes here yesterday; so check it out here. if you haven’t already
