My ideal day

Describe your most ideal day from beginning to end.

Post number 550 on this blog!

I don’t know if I would know the perfect day if it reached up and smacked me upside the head. It’s something that I don’t try to think too much about. So I’ll list some things below, at random, bullet point style. They’re not necessarily in any chronological order, but I think you’ll get the idea.

  • Both my boys with me.
  • summertime
  • a baseball game
  • the beach,
  • It has to be saltwater. Not that I don’t like freshwater, but that salty, sticky feeling reminds me of summertime. Ever since I lived in South Carolina, that post-saltwater swim sensation just takes me back to my time in “The Lowcountry”
  • Beach volleyball.
  • Parasailing
  • Fishing
  • Surfing – but I don’t know how feasible that would be with everything else going on
  • Drink served at about 34°F. Not freezing, not on the verge of freezing either; but damn cold.
  • Do you know how celery is considered a “negative calorie” food? They say that because you expend more energy from the end of eating the food than what you get by actually digesting it. That’s how I want the beer to be. No bloat, no guilt. And as long as I’m at it, no getting trashed and no hangovers.
  • Grilling/barbecuing
  • Sundresses
  • a warm, yet not too humid sun. You know the kind, where you can get in the shade to avoid the heat. The kind in which you sweat and it actually cools your body down without making you feel like you are a walking sweat sock.
  • Live music is also a must. Perfectly throughout the entire day. Oldies. Rock. Hell, maybe even a little bit of country. Nothing too hard. Nothing too soft. Just feel good, upbeat music. A soundtrack to remind us. what an incredible day this is. (I seriously want to make this playlist now!)
  • Some time on a boat would be a nice option too. but it’s not a dealbreaker if there’s no boat present.
  • Sunblock is a must. Something like 2 million SPF. Something where I put it on once, and I don’t even have to entertain the possibility of getting burnt. Of course, a nice tan would just be icing on the cage.
  • A firework show, probably on the water. Definitely at the end of the day.
  • A night of 8 to 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. We need to stay somewhere close enough to the water so that I can open the window or even the door and hear the tide throughout the night.
  • And most importantly, there wherewithal to stop, look around once a while, take it all in and realize “this is the perfect day”
