If there was one law I could change, it would codify Roe V. Wade, making abortion legal across all 50 US states. The landmark Supreme Court case, which protected women’s right to an abortion was overturned roughly 18 month ago.
In a sick case of art-imitating-life-imitating art, that week, Jessica (remember her?) had gotten me to start watching The Handmaid’s Tale. I got through the first season, but I had to stop at that point. It was just hitting too close to home.
If you haven’t figured it out already, I am pro-choice. While I don’t personally love the idea of terminating a pregnancy, I absolutely believe that women should have the right to choose to do so – whether it is personal reasons, medical reasons, criminal reasons, or otherwise – no one should be forced to bring a child into this world against her will. I think that abortions should be allowed to be performed during the first or second trimester; and third trimester abortions would be permitted in cases of rape, incest, health of the mother or health of the unborn child.
These views may anger, some of my readers, however, I believe the health, welfare and wishes of the would-be mother must be protected
