My boys. The two people in the world that I most like to spend time with our my sons, Kid 1 and Kid 2. For a little more in-depth information on each of the boys check out my earlier posts, On Kid 1 and On Kid 2
It’s true, that it really is no owners manual that comes along with having a kid. But of all the things you have to learn on the fly as a parent, the one thing you don’t really fully appreciate until it’s almost too late is the fact that you only have a finite amount of time with your children. They’re only so many birthdays parties that you’re going to throw for them. They’re only so many Christmases where they are going to believe in Santa Claus.
I love the dynamics that I have with kid 1 , but I also feel it that there’s so much that I missed out on because of the distance that we live from each other. Even with kid 2; while I see him much more frequently than kid 1, I know it’s not the same as being a part of his life every day. Neither one is the perfect situation, and I am grateful for the time that I have with both of them; but sometimes, I wish I had more. Still, as Kid 1 is finishing up his second semester of his junior year in high school right now, I have the feeling that somehow, he and I will actually be closer once he is in college.
