The last thing I’ve learned is that Dune Part Two, is, by all accounts, a great movie. People are saying that it is on the level of The Empire Strikes Back-great. I have yet to hear a bad thing about this movie. So much so that I’m going to see it theaters. Of course, this means that I should probably watch Dune Part One first.
Being a bona-fide sci-fi geek, of course I’ve heard of Dune previously. I’m well aware of the Frank Herbert novel that inspired the move; as well as the 1984 movie adaptation. But for some reason, Dune has never appealed to me. I guess because all i ever had was a superficial understanding of the story: “they’re in the desert. They’re looking for spice. Blah, blah, blah”. It just never did anything form me. Some of my friends and even a few of my students have told me that I will really like these movies; so I feel like I owe it to myself to check them out. I’m sure I’ll be posting a review of part within the next few days.
As for now I just watched roughly the first hour of Dune, part one. And I must say that I am already hooked! It’s clear that this movie is largely exposition. There is a lot of world building, taking place; setting the table for part two. But if part two is anywhere near as good as saying, it will be well worth it!
