Have you ever been camping?
I was trying to solve an odd little mystery this weekend. I saw that this prompt was coming up and the app had said that I already answered it. After writing it this morning and putting the “related links” block at the bottom of this page, I realized that I did write on this one just under one year ago HERE.
Apparently WordPress has gone beyond just recycling ideas. Now they are just out-and-out phoning it in. They are literally re-using the same “daily prompt” tag number on this post as they did with the one from last tear. I guess this kind of stuff is inevitable as I make my way toward writing every day for one full year…
In my preteen/early teenage years, I was a Boy Scout. During those three years, I probably went camping four or five times each year. That’s really about the extent of my camping experience. I may have gone one or two other times since then, but that’s been about it.
As a Boy Scout , one of the highlights of our year was our trip to summer camp. Our troop would spend one week at our local “scout reservation – a campground that was owner either by our local or the Boy Scouts of America. The bulk of our time there was for working on completing merit badges. In addition, there were “high adventure” experiences available as well like rappelling, horseback riding, wilderness survival and the mild swim.
There was a camp store and a cafeteria, where all the troops would meet up for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Troops had the option to skip a meal if they wanted to cook out at their campsite as well.
I haven’t thought much, let alone written about my experiences at summer camp in years. I didn’t even realize how much h I missed it until just now. Talk about “memory unlocked”! This was long before smartphones and the internet. I honestly wonder what kids’ ideas of “roughing it” are today.
Have you ever been camping?
