By definition, I guess it’s not technically a holiday; but my favorite holiday is Halloween. Halloween is my favorite holiday because it is just straight up fun! Don’t get me wrong, I like Christmas, but as an adult and as a parent, there is far too much pressure and far too many expectations are going into the Christmas holiday.
As a parent, I can tell you there few more stress-inducing than shopping for Christmas presents. For many people, it’s tough enough even being able to afford Christmas presents, let alone making sure you’re getting the “perfect” gift. This is to say nothing about the fact that suicide rates are at their highest during the. Christmas holiday season. Christmas is just an incredibly intense time of year.
With Halloween, kids get candy. They dress up in costumes. They can be fun, scary, silly or some really clever, thought-provoking costumes. Truth be told, I think adults actually enjoy Halloween more than kids do.Need I say anything besides slutty costumes?
it’s amazing to me because I feel like over the course of my lifetime. I’ve seen people continuously outdo themselves when it comes to Halloween. Halloween decorations are everywhere now. By September 1, Halloween city open temporary shops all over the country.
Personally, I credit/blame the 1990s TV series Roseanne for the explosion of paraphernalia in the United States. One of the things about the Roseanne series was that in each season, they had a “Halloween episode”. Part of the story within the series was that the Conners were that-one-family-in-the-neighborhood who seems to go all-out for Halloween. Ever since Roseanne was on the air, i feel like we’ve seen a substantial uptick in Halloween decorations. Maybe it’s a coincidence; but maybe not.
What is your favorite holiday?
