Donald John Trump
To paraphrase Shakespeare, “How do i loathe thee? Let me count the ways…”
Between his actions, his soundbites, and his social media posts, this guy has a variable laundry list of mishaps that would have spelled the end of every political career before his; yet somehow he keeps chugging along like a cockroach. I’m not going to get into his Individual in fractions. Rather, I’m just going to tell you, as a whole, why I do not like the man.
He is not politically conservative. At all. Back in 2015, the GOP saw a “anti-Obama“ in him and decided to hitch their wagon into his proverbial star. I actually feel bad for a lot of the decent, mentally- sound conservatives who find themselves feeling betrayed by the fact that he is completely co-opted their political party.
I don’t think the Donald Trump ever actually wanted to be the president of the United States. I think he wanted to be the CEO of the USA. I think he wanted to be the supremeruler of the country. Given that he knows almost nothing about the powers that were given to him under the constitution, I don’t think he ever really wanted to be just a president.
He’s a snake oil salesman. He always has been. This is why other rich people have never accepted him. He has had business after business flop, and yet somehow people think that he is some kind of shrewd businessman. Everything in his business buildings and his golf courses is all about the aesthetic. And it is a phony aesthetic at that. He is Foolsgold. He is bright colored foil that hides an inner rotten framework of nothing.

And where in the hell do I begin with his cult supporters? I get it. Like Germans, after World War I, Trump supporters seem to think that their country is being taken away from them – however wrong they are in that assessment. Along comes Trump. He says the things they want to hear. Granted, he gives no actual agenda or plan on how he wants to accomplish the things he says he will do. But when you’re born into wealth, and you have people kissing your ass for your entire life, You begin to believe that people will believe whatever you say. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Americans who believe this.
I’ve never understood cults or cults of personality. Trumpism is one of the things that just defies every sense of common logic. If they didn’t have so much hatred in their hearts, I would almost feel sorry for his followers. I feel like they are truly lost people who are so desperate for inspiration and leadership that the cling to anything, even an the incoherent ramblings of an orange con man
Any positive note, I am inspired by the numbers of former Trump supporters who are now claiming that they will not vote for him again this fall. The chorus by most of them is at Donald Trump was a very different politician in 2016, 2020 and in 2024. Also, I was elated to hear that the lieutenant governor of Georgia, one of the historically reddest of red states, has announced that he will not support Trump in this upcoming election
Rob‘s PSA of the day: vote blue this fall. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that the very fabric of America’s democracy may be at stake in the upcoming election. Even if you don’t like Joe Biden or the Democrats, we need to at least keep the democracy alive long enough so that both political parties can live to fight each other and another day.
That’s it. I have to start dating again. If, for no other reason, so I can get back to complaining about meaningless dates and failing relationships on this blog.
