If you look back at the overall history of this blog, I was never very consistent with it, until the last 13 months or so.
I remember seeing the daily writing prompts a little over a year ago and didn’t give them much thought initially. My blog entries consisted of me writing about something that was on my mind, or something that caught my attention online. I would write about it. Of course, I would complain about my relationship(s) was as well, but I digress.
One day – and I would have to look back at the exact prompt that triggered me – I decided to respond to the daily prompt. To my surprise, the post got a lot more views in my typical blathering did. I was so excited about having a few more views, that I decided to write on the daily prompt the next day. And the day after that, and so on. Immediately, my numbers went up. I started with getting more hits in a single day than I would get an entire week. Intern, I started seeing more views an entire week than I would normally CNN an entire month. The numbers kept climbing. And eventually started seeing more in a single day than I had seen months prior. Needless to say, my blog wasn’t getting much traffic until I started responding to the daily prompts. The prompts, it seems, bring people to my blog. It’s my other content that seems to bring them back.
I don’t remember exactly at what point I decided “I’m going to to respond to the prompts every day,” but I did . In addition to the writing on the daily prompts, I would still write about things going on in the news. Likewise, if there was something going on in my relationships or my experiences as a divorced dad, I still posted about those as well
Eventually, I started to re-post older entries on their respective anniversaries. My reason for this was twofold. One, I wanted to look back and see how far I had come in the months or years since an earlier post. Two, I was hoping to draw more eyes to my earlier posts. As i started getting more traffic, I would try to add more content, just for the sake of views. I even started my own podcast. essentially creating “extended cuts” of some of my more popular blog posts. I haven’t made new episode of my podcast for several months, however.

As you see by this graph, March was by highest- viewed month ever. It comes as no surprises March also happen to be the month where I posted more often than any other time since the creation of the blog, Unfortunately since then, the blog’s numbers have been on a steady decline. I think for the reason for this is since March, my number of publish posts per month has also gradually decreased. The more content I post, the more views I get 4:09 AM. That I have been reposting a lot of old entries probably hasn’t helped my most recent numbers either. .
here is my streak by the numbers:
- Streak began: September 5, 2023
- Total number of posts: (163 in 2023. 411 in 2024 through September 5)
As for what’s in store for this blog going forward? I’m not really sure. I know that I am going to continue to write. I feel like I need to take a break at some point. Even if it’s just one day to go withoutwriting, just to recharge a little bit. But at the same time, I want to keep the streak going. I would like to expand this blog a little bit again; like I had done several months ago. But at that point, maintaining this free blog becomes an enormous responsibility, almost an obligation. This far I haven’t really had the traffic to warrant getting into that. I think it was getting to that point, and then it just fizzled..I’ve got to find other things outside of writing prompts to write about. I want to start podcasting again. But this blog will always be here. The rebuild never ends
