A DISCLAIMER: I originally started writing this post on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, getting diagnosed with Covid earlier this week really not me and my rear end. And while I don’t think this is really a thorough analysis of the presidential debate, I want to go ahead and post what I’ve written out of fear of letting too much time go by…
I tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday. This is the first time in two years that I’ve had the virus. Unfortunately it really knocked me off of my feet and I didn’t watch much of the presidential debate.
I did, however, see a little bit of it. I caught a bunch of highlights on social media today; and I decided to watch the debate on demand from beginning to end.
This November will be the ninth US presidential election that I will take part in as a voter. I’ve never voted Republican, and all likelihood I never will. Having said that, I understand that my opinions on last nights debate might be a little biased.
I thought Kamala Harris was absolutely devastating Tuesday night. She kept her cool, she got under Trump skin, repeatedly. While she wasn’t terribly specific on some of her policies or plans at times, Harris’s ability to control the overall tempo of the debate – coupled with Trump’s anger, and total lack of any planning – made her the clear winner
A lot of journalists and keyboard warriors were talking immediately afterwards about “the handshake”. At these types of presidential debates, it is customary for both candidates to meet at the center of the stage shake, and then return to the podium to begin.
Take a look at what transpired in this YouTube clip…
Trump doesn’t even make his way to the center of the stage. He goes directly to stand behind his podium. If you notice, Harris walks to the center of the stage and when she sees Trump is behind his podium, she immediately walks over to him, shakes his hand first and introduces herself. This was n alpha move; one that really set the tone for the entire evening.
Joe Biden may very well have shit the proverbial bed during the first presidential debate, which was the main catalyst in his decision to not seek reelection. But Tuesday night, Donald Trump got his ass kicked.
It wasn’t just Donald Trump‘s age or his ever increasing cognitive dissonance. Trump all-but admitted that he has no concrete plans for the next four years, should he get elected again If Harris’s presentation was lacking in many specific details about her “plans“; Trump admitted late in the debate that after nine years of calling for an end to the Affordable Care Act, he has only “concepts of plans“ for a replacement
Harris kept her cool through the entire debate, and she was successful every time she attempted to get Donald Trump off track by bringing up some hot button bullet points, such as crowd sizes, January 6, his views on the military, to name a few.
Thursday night, Donald Trump announced that there would be no more presidential debates during this campaign.
I wonder why 🤔
