Yes, I understand that I co-opting the title of a song that has become an unofficial anthem for the LGBTQ community
To be honest, I’ve never really our a lot of stock in “cultural/ethnic heritage pride”. Maybe it’s because I’m a white, Irish-America male. I’m sure that a great deal of that reluctance has to do with “white pride” being equated with white supremacy. But I think it’s more the fact that I don’t see the point i being proud of something that I had NOTHING to do with.
I didn’t do anything to be male. I was born this way. I didn’t do anything to achieve “whiteness”. I was born this way. I didn’t do anything to become Irish-American. I was born this way. Since I personally did nothing to attain my ethnicity, why should I be “proud” of it?
