Saturday afternoon, Kid 2 accompanied me to “early voting” I’m glad he came with me because he got a chance to see how the whole voting process works.
This may some really corny, but I actually get really excited to go and vote. For most of my life, it seems like most Americans take voting for granted. I think that has been changing over the last election cycles. It seems like every four years we hear a quote. This is the most important election of our time“. However, I truly believe that the 2024 US Presidential election is the most important election of my lifetime. of course, our other state national and even local elections are nothing to sneeze at either.
When I went into vote, one of the employees had explained to me that the “voter number“ I would get on the slip of paper that was attached to my ballot was actually the total number of early voters that had gone to the local community center in my town to vote this week. I was number 10,285.
I know we also hear this every election cycle, but I think it’s fair to say that we may very well see a record turnout this year at the polls. I think we will get probably 75% of eligible voters actually voting in this year’s election. I think that’s actually a cautious estimate.
And to be honest, that’s the big reason that I went early. I feel like voting on Tuesday is going to be an absolute madhouse. I’m worried about what’s going to happen with the selection either way. Regardless you’re going to have roughly half of the country. Having said that, I think there’s only one half of the country would do anything really extreme.
