I was so happy with the results for my blueprint for 2024 that I decided to do this again. OK, maybe last year‘s blueprint wasn’t a runaway success; but it gave me a roadmap of things that I want to do. And I think I achieved about half of them, as I talked about HERE. Unfortunately, most of what I have on this list as essentially been lifted from last year‘s blueprint, with one notable exception
1. To lose weight/get in better shape
Overall, I think I did a pretty good job this year with working out. However, I didn’t really see myself lose much weight, give or take a few pounds. Part of that could be attributed to the fact that I probably some of my fat into muscle . But now I wanna take it to another level. I want to actually lose weight and slim down a little bit more. I need to start working out at a different level. Furthermore, I think I really need to start changing the way that I eat.
The fact is, I have to do something about my gut. It’s going to be the death of me if I’m not careful. Someone women will joke – and some will say it’s seriously – that dad bods are hot. The problem is is that the dad bod will make my heart explode if I’m not careful.
Trying to set a goal with losing 40 pounds right off the bat probably isn’t very realistic. So I’m going to start with a goal of 10 pounds for this year, and anything I do beyond that is just gravy, if you’ll pardon the pun.
2. To get involved with some kind of volunteer/charity work
This is another one from last year’s blueprint for 2024, that I completely missed the mark on them. I want to get involved in something with this during the year. My top choices are either the Michigan Humane Society or Habitat for Humanity. However, habitat’s a little hard to get involved with during the winter months; as there isn’t as much construction going on in Michigan.
3. To enroll in graduate school
Speaking of things I didn’t get around to last year. Something about knowing that kid one will start college later this fall, makes me want to get myself back into school even more. Maybe this will be the year it finally happens…
4. More new stories.
Again, this one is something of a combination of two of last year‘s points. But I wanna just keep expanding my scope to new content. Hopefully this will inspire me to continue writing throughout the new year as well.
5. Cutting the cable
I talked about this one last year, but I think I’m finally ready to do it. I love my kids, and if I had another one, I would be OK with it. But did Kid 1 and Kid 2 have made Rob’s Parenting Era a pretty good run.
6. Visit at at least three new MLB stadiums this summer
I didn’t quite hit the goal last year. I only made it to two new stadiums. But I’ve had a Philadelphia – Baltimore – DC trip percolating in my head for a few months. Milwaukee and Wrigley Field, I still got my eye on you as well.
There’s a part of me that wants to limit this to just seeing the Tigers at all 30 MLB parks. That might be a little bit more economically viable, on a teacher salary. But I think I first have to experience attending games at all 30 MLB parks. Then I’ll work on seeing the Tigers there.
7. Travel more
Finally, a new one! Even if I don’t make it to more MLB stadiums this year, I just want to travel more. I want to see more of the world. Growing up, my family didn’t travel a whole lot. Part of that I think it was because we were living on a cop’s salary. Also, I don’t think either of my parents really traveled much as kids themselves. – so they didn’t really put a lot of importance on it
I’d like to change that. For both myself and my kids.
8. Improve my finances
I always want to do this. But between getting a little raise this year, and my child support payments to kid 1, wrapping up earlier than I expected, I had a little bit of a windfall this year. Maybe more like a breeze, if you will.
Of course, something that would help this one would be getting enrolled in grad school and eventually getting my masters degree.
🎶 and that brings us back to do… 🎶
