Daily writing prompt
If you had a freeway billboard, what would it say?

TRUE STORY: In 1993, a ballet called “Billboards” was set to Prince’s music. I vaguely remember seeing a filmed version of it on PBS.

It’s kind of fitting: last year, I responded to this prompt talking, mostly about a billboard related to a Detroit Lions loss. This morning, I’m waking up to the Detroit Lions clinching their second consecutive NFC North division title, and securing home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. The team went 15–2 on the year for the best record in franchise history. As excited as I am, I’m trying not to put the proverbial cart in front of the horse. The Lions still have a long way to go if they are to win their first ever-elusive Super Bowl.

I have to admit that I’m not feeling particularly inspired these days. So I think I have to fall back on the same mantra that I’ve kind of lived my life by for quite a while now “Fortune favors the bold“

Today is January 6, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the attempted insurrection that took place on Capitol Hill four years ago today. I remember watching it unfold live on TV. How the events on January 6 didn’t convince people that they were supporting the wrong guy is beyond me.

As for today, Congress will, once again, meet to certify the electoral votes of all 50 states. As President of the Senate, it must be awkward for Vice President Kamala Harris to preside over this event, considering her loss in the 2024 US Presidential election. All of this serves as a stark reminder to me that we are moving closer to another 4 years of Trumpism. I’ve all but stopped watching CNN. I don’t want to be reminded of it. Sometimes I feel like a Jedi who survived Order 66 in the Star Wars saga. I’m just laying low, waiting for the next great Democratic candidate to emerge.

Here’s my response to today’s prompt from last year.
