As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What class do you wish was taught in high school?
Life skills
The one class I would like to see taught in high school would be a “life skills“ class. As a teacher, I think it would be kind of an interesting challenge, trying to create a curriculum for it.
Life skills could teach things like how to balance a checkbook, how to determine interest for a credit card. How to fill out a job application or a loan application. How to create a résumé.
I’ve been in schools where they would have employees from a local bank come in to teach the students about banking in general and budgeting.
Students would also benefit from learning more about study skills and how to be media-savvy – as it comes to find reliable sources for information. Originally, I thought that study skills could be its own course, but there’s no reason that it can’t be made a part of a life skills course.
Depending on resources that are available at the school or into school district, it might be possible to also include a it in basic car repairs. Students can learn how to change a tires, check and maybe even change the oil. in their car.
