My Batcave

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What’s your favourite spot in your home?

In comic books, TV, movies – all its various iterations – Batman has always had a Batcave, More than just his “super hero lair” is the one place on Earth where Bruce Wayne can truly be himself. In fact, many writers have said that Batman is the real person, and Bruce Wayne is actually the secret identity of the character. My favorite spot in my home is probably in my basement. It’s the closest thing that I have a to a “Batcave”.

I think it goes back to when I was a teenager. I felt like the basement was something of a refuge. Even as a kid, it was my area. It was where it could be myself. It was where I could get away from my parents.

Even now, as an adult, it’s a place so I can decorate any way I choose. You don’t see any “live, laugh, love” wall hangings in my basement. It’s old movie characters. It’s pop culture references. It’s baseball; reflections of things from when I was a child. My basement is still the place where I go when I want to relax, disconnect from the world and just be myself.

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy being outdoors, sitting at the poolside – or even at the beach – just as much as the next average person. But whee I live, we get fewer outdoor days that we get actually outdoor days.

Of course, it helps having my washer and dryer down there. At least I can get household tasks completed while I channel my inner Bruce Wayne.
