My secret source of pride

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is something that you are proud of, but no one really witnessed it or knows about it?

One thing that I’m really proud of, and that almost no one really knows about is this blog.

Don’t get me wrong i’m not forgetting about you, my loyal readers. What I meant to say is virtually no one in my everyday life knows about this blog. I started writing this as I was going through my divorce 13 years ago. For the most part, I’ve kept my identity a secret.

But the truth is, I don’t write this blog for recognition. I write it to interact with readers like yourself. I hope that I have been able to offer people some insight, not only I to my experiences as a man going through a divorce, but hopefully giving them some insight as to what to expect, or to at least know that they’re not alone and what they’re feeling is normal.

Obviously, I wasn’t gonna be “a guy going through a divorce“ forever. I do feel like this blog has evolved a little bit. First and foremost, I think I have had a great deal to say about my experiences as a single father. In addition, I have also branched off to talk about my own personal interests, pop culture, politics, sports and really whatever else is on my mind or in my heart.

When I started writing this post on Tuesday, I had no idea that my numbers were going to be as high as they were for the day. I don’t believe that this is the single glorious days performance I’ve had from this blog, but it is definitely top two or top three.

Yesterday‘s numbers from this very blog

Because of how little traffic my blog sees, when I do come across the spike like this in traffic, I assume that it is because someone who knows me stumbled onto this blog and wants to keep digging deeper. Don’t get me wrong, I have days where I see my number spike by 20 or even 50 views. When that happens, I assume that it’s somebody who read one of my posts, actually liked what they read and decided to look at some more.

But looking at these numbers, it doesn’t appear that I had one or two viewers who clicked on a bunch of different pages. I almost have as many unique visitors as I do views for the day. So what happened? I have no idea. I don’t know if maybe this blog ended up on some search engine today or was featured somewhere But I’m grateful for the traffic.

OK. I kind of creep myself out every time I try to speak too highly of this rinky-dink blog, so I’ll stop here.

For what it’s worth, one day I would really like to go into a store and either pay for somebody’s groceries or pay for their Christmas gift around the holidays. Not for the recognition, but just because I wanna be able to do something incredibly nice for human being.

Like wise I kept this blog quiet from friends and family, it was just a journal of my life and struggles, only my wife knew of it and would dive in occasionally to see what had been posted. Then people I know began to find out and word spread. And now I have them all checking in and even sending cameras to repair. I love it, and I love reading similar blogs such as yours. Keep it up, it’s good stuff. All the very best to you 👍

I love reading your blog—it hits close to home. I feel the same way about mine. I’ve got over 600 followers, but only a handful are people I actually know—family, coworkers, or locals. The rest just seem to enjoy my sarcasm and mild frustration, which, honestly, I respect. I appreciate everyone who sticks around for the ride. I might have to copy this prompt to go with my reply.

Thanks Eric! I enjoy your blog too!

Another blogger turned me in to that gas that I link to at the top of my posts.

After writing on WordPress about a year straight, I went through all of their prompts, so I’m always on the hunt for new and interesting writing topics.
