As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
You come home after a long day and a friend/family texts you with some news. What news would be the best news ever?
I’m going to answer this based on where I’m at at the given moment
“Rob, you just won the lottery!“
That would be the best news I could ever receive after a long day of work. It would make the work day, however, bad it was, seem a little less stressful or exhausting. It would make the idea of going back to work seem more like an option than any sort of obligation.
Winning the lottery would solve a lot of my financial problems. And not that I’m struggling or anything. I’m in a pretty good place right now but like so many other Americans, I’m realizing that living to paycheck is getting even more difficult.
Of course, I’ve heard some of the lottery winner stories, and even some of the stories from musicians on the old series “VH1 behind the music” where, the moment you become successful, every single person you’ve ever known and seems to come out of the woodwork, looking for a handout. Likewise, there’s plenty stories out there about athletes who make a few too many poor investment choices, and end up broke.
True story: Phred has a friend who is a doctor. And she told me how one day when he was going out for a walk, a neighbor stopped him and asked for $15,000 so that they could buy a car. I couldn’t imagine just walking up to a neighbor and asking for 15 grand, but that’s just me. I would imagine that it would be only worse with people who I actually knew, relatives, and particularly more so with people who, for whatever reason I am no longer in contact with. While doctors obviously make very good money, it’s nowhere near on the level that elite entertainers or professional athlete to make.
Of course, it was the Notorious B.I.G. who performed a song called “Mo money, no problems”. He was probably right. After all, look how he ended up. I have no doubt that coming into a large sum of money would create a lot of new problems. In fact, it’s probably fair to say that getting rich would create just as many problems as it solves.
But sometimes it would be nice to have a whole different level of priorities…
