April: The Season Opener

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What are your goals for April?

Rather than responding to this prompt in a standard paragraph format, I’m just going to crank out a list. I end up writing a lot of these month-to-month responses, and frankly, I’m “phoning this one in” just a bit at 5:00 AM.

That said, April feels like a bridge. May 31st and the 1,000-day milestone are just around the corner, and I’ve got some specific targets to hit before I get there. Here is my game plan for the month, in no particular order:

• The Daily Streak: Keep the momentum. No breadcrumbs—just the consistency required to hit that May 31st finish line.

• Fiscal Discipline: I’m tired of the “paycheck to paycheck” cycle. This month, the goal is to curb the impulsive payday spending—specifically the takeout—and start a real buffer. Even if it’s just $20 a paycheck, I need to start somewhere.

• Physical Strategy: I’ve been enjoying the energy boost from the gym, but I’ve been slipping on the diet the last week or two. In April, I’m shifting my routine to focus less on just “tone” and more on the actual weight loss. It’s time to get back to the “100% Policy” with my health.

• The 3-City Blueprint: Baseball is how I organize my calendar, and this summer’s three-city road trip is my most ambitious one yet. I’m done with “stringing things together” at the last minute. The goal this month is to be deliberate: book at least one hotel and a couple of game tickets so this is a locked-in reality.

• The Nine-Week Weathering: With the current state of management at my school, I’m just looking to weather the storm. I’ve got about nine weeks left in the school year. I want to return from Spring Break re-energized enough to cross that finish line with my “Teacher Armor” intact.

• The Personal Milestone: My birthday is on the 17th. Amidst the gym, the budget, and the school grind, I’m making it a point to do something actually fun for myself.

I think this is a realistic, if not ambitious, game plan for the month of April. It’s about less impulse and more intent.

Coming This Wednesday: The Podcast

“The Teacher Armor” (Episode 7) If the “nine-week countdown” mentioned above resonates with you, you won’t want to miss tomorrow’s episode. I’m diving into the concept of “Teacher Armor”—that mental state required to survive the classroom grind—and why Saturday is the only day I truly feel I can “unbuckle” it and recharge.

Look for it on Spotify and your favorite podcast apps tomorrow morning.
