Rob‘s 2026 Men’s’ March Madness bracket update – the National Championship

Hail to the Victors Valiant! This was another game that wasn’t quite as close as the final score indicates. Led by Tournament MVP Elliot Cadeau’s 19 points, Michigan’s defense stifled the Huskies all night, holding them to a dismal 31% from the field.

Michigan 69 – UConn 63

Michigan wins its first national championship in 36 years. And while this current roster might never surpass the cultural impact of the “Fab Five,” they’ve achieved something that iconic group never did: cutting down the nets on Monday night.

I’m curious to see how the next few years unfold under Coach Dusty May. To take a team from an 8-24 record just two seasons ago to the mountaintop today is nothing short of a coaching masterclass.

As for my ESPN bracket, Michigan winning “the Natty”—and me picking them to do so—catapulted me to a ranking of 4.3 million. Not too bad considering there were over 20 million entries in the challenge. I’ll take that “W” and head into the off-season happy.

I know it became a tradition for CBS to end their March Madness coverage with a highlight over “One Shining Moment”. It I think today the lyrics to “The Victors” is a little more appropriate:

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conquering heroes
Hail! Hail! to michigan
the leaders and best!
Hail! To the victors valiant
Hail! to the conquering heroes
Hail! Hail! to michigan
the champions of the west!

I’m not a big Michigan guy anymore, but I dare you to find me better lyrics to a single verse of any university fight song in the country.
