My favorite Pastime

My favorite is time, at least the only one I’ve really been paying much attention to beyond blogging lately is baseball.

Before I go any further, I need to explain that i didn’t play organized ball beyond a few years of parks and rec ball. I never played in middle school, high school college or the minors. I just happen to be a spectator that has developed a love affair with the game over the course of my life.

I’m fortunate I’m that my home town is one of only twelve “4 sport cities” in North American sports; so I’m following some local sports teams, however casually, throughout the year.

But growing up, we were a Tigers family. Chances are someone was watching or listening to at least part of a Tiger game on any given day. Baseball, and more specifically the Tigers have always been the one sport whose pre-season got me excited. It just expanse a tradition

The Old Man got a partial season-ticket package in 1997. It put him on a priority list to for season tickets when they moved to Comerica Park in 2000.

I was lucky enough to see the final game at Old Tiger Stadium, the first game at Comerica Park; as well as the 2005 All Star Game, game 1 of the 2006 World Series, a bunch of home openers and lots of games in between.

When I travel, I try attend games in other cities. This past summer, I finally got serious about making road trips exclusively for seeing games in other cities. So far, I’ve seen games in a total of 9 MLB ballparks (5 current and 4 old parks) 4 college parks 8 minor league parks and 1 independent league stadium.

As much as I love the game itself, I love the ballpark experience. It’s a nice break to go to a part, enjoy the weather and forget about the rest of my life for a few hours.

[…] Baseball is first and foremost, my favorite sport. I wish the season went year round. I could watch baseball all day, even if it was just as background noise. Growing up in my family, I would say that we were a baseball clan. We were definitely more into the Tigers than we were the other local sports teams. In fact, my father had a partial season-ticket package for the Tigers from 1996 until 2015. Currently, my goal is to see an MLB game at all 30 active MLB stadiums, as I have discussed on other posts.
