Artist is a very broad term. An artist can be a painter, sculptor, writer, singer, musician, poet – did I miss any?

Picking a favorite artist isn’t like picking a favorite flavor of ice cream. if I say that chocolate is my favorite flavor of ice cream, I pretty much know what I’m going to get when I have chocolate ice cream.

The same is not true with artists. They may try to branch out and attempt different styles within their medium. Metallica is one of my all-time favorite bands but I stand much of their music from “the time they cut their hair”. The same is true with The Doors. Jim Morrison’s substance was always excessive, but the band’s music really suffered because of it by the time the recorded “the soft parade”

I chose one artist in one medium – Vincent van Gough – to write about for the sake of this prompt. I wouldn’t go as far as to call him my favorite artist, but he’s definitely high on my list.

I know, The Starry Night is kind of cliched. It is a gateway art, in that it serves as a great way of introducing people to the medium. But it’s predictable choice for a reason: it’s great. It doesn’t take much to imagine this piece being animated and coming to life.

Thanks to modern technology, art can animated in ways that artists only dreamed about hundreds of years ago. And it wasn’t out of lack of effort: the best artists were a belt o create the illusion of perspective in tow dimensional art. About a year-and-a-half ago, I attended an “immersive van Gough experience”
