How much would you pay to go to the moon?
As I mentioned in my response to yesterday’s prompt, the first thing I ever wanted to be “when I grow up” was an astronaut. To say that I would love to travel to the moon is a colossal understatement.
Currently no one is making manned trips to the Moon; but thanks to the emergence of Space X and Virgin Galactic, commercial flights to the moon are much closer to being a reality. Flights to space currently run around $20 million per person – as I recall. Being a man of very limited, very finite means, I have never seriously considered the possibility of a commercial flight to space, let alone landing the moon. Flights to the moon would have to be much more reasonably priced in order for me to consider such a trip. If money were no object, I would pay whatever the going rate is for such a trip. Here in the real world, I wouldn’t pay more than $20,000 for a trip to the moon. Any amount of money over that is something that I could use for a much better cause my kids, a car, major home repairs, a terrestrial vacation even
The encouraging part is that things do get cheaper as technology improves. Look at computers. Think about how expensive they were in the 1980s, as compared to what they cost now. In the future, trips into outer space would be much more affordable than they are now. and I don’t believe that I’ll se e such trips becoming economically feasible in my lifetime; but stranger things have happened.
How much money would you pay for a trip to the Moon? Is that something you’re even interested in?
