Does your family make any special dishes for the holidays?
In A Christmas Story, Ralph Parker, as a narrator, says “every family has a kid who won’t eat…“ That was me growing up.
Still, even as the in-house picky eater, I have memories of my family’s holiday dishes over the years. One that comes to mind, one that I never really knew the name of, was simply referred to as “pink stuff“ within my immediate and extended family.
It’s a gelatin-based salad/side dish. To be honest, the stuff looks hideous. I’ve never been much of a Jell-O eater, and I’ve never any desire to try this “pink stuff”.
Evidently, it’s very easy to make and requires a few ingredients. You could Google “pink stuff” on the Internet, and lots of variations on the recipe, if you’re really interested.
I was a little stunned to learn how widespread this recipe is. As a little kid, I thought it was something that someone in my family created themselves.
Happy Thanksgiving!
