A blueprint for 2024

OK. Maybe the resolutions are cheesy, but I have quite a few. I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching recently, especially given how much more writing than I have been in a very, very long time. So without further ado, here are Rob’s resolutions for 2024 in no particular order.

1. To lose weight/get in better shape

Just before Thanksgiving, I tipped the scales at 250 pounds if this isn’t the heaviest I’ve ever ever been in my life, it’s pretty darn close. This is going to end. My first school is to get myself down to 210, or what I refer to as “my Batman weight“ because that is what Batman weighs in the comic books. if I can put some muscle on my body, lose some of my gut, and get my weight to 210, I would be happy

2. To get involved with some kind of volunteer/charity work.

Lately, I feel like I’ve been possessed by the spirit of Derek, Zoolander, and I just want to do something for other people. As he says, even thinking about it is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I don’t know what cause or what charity I want to help with yet, and I would probably have to give more of my time than I would give my money.

3. To enroll in graduate school.

I still don’t know if I want to complete my masters degree in English, get an administrator certification, get a masters degree in education, or maybe even consider pursuing law school. But it’s time to finish that story.

4. To read at least one book every month.

There are simply too many books that I’ve never read that I want to read. It’s time I get started.

5, to watch at least one “new to me” movie every month; or complete one season of a “new to me” TV series every month

See my explanation for new books.

6. To move into a new place.

I’ve been living with relatives for too long. It’s way past time that I reclaim my own piece of the Earth.

7. Cutting the cable.

Not cable TV, but “my cables“ if you know, you know.

8. Start playing bass guitar again, or some other instrument.

I’ve never really been much of a bass player, but it’s the closest thing that I’ve ever done to demonstrate any musical ability.

9. Visit at at least three new MLB stadiums this summer

Milwaukee, Wrigley Field, Cincinnati, I’m looking at you guys.

10. Improve my finances

My portfolio is nonexistent. My net is gross. As of now, my retirement plan is death. I’m just grateful that we don’t have debtor’s prison like we had back in the day. Once you’ve been chugging away at rock-bottom for too long, all you can do is go up.

If I could achieve half the stuff on this list, and be working towards the other half by this time next year, I would feel like a whole new man.
