That which we call a Rob…

Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

I, literally write about this exact topic on a post back in August. My apologies if it sounds redundant.

As to where the name Robert originated from within my family, The Old Man’s middle name was Robert. The Old Man had an uncle (making him my great uncle) named Robert. He had passed before I was born, but I’ve always heard referred to as “Uncle Bob”.

To the best of my knowledge, Uncle Bob never played any significant role in The Old Man’s life. I’ve always heard that the guy was a drunk. I think I think my parents just liked the idea of passing a name through the family. That he went by Bob has always been interesting to me since, of all the nicknames for Robert that exist, I have always hated Bob, or any variation thereof.

Esmeralda: What is your name?

Butch: Butch.

Esmeralda: What does it mean?

Butch: I'm American, honey. Our names don't mean shit.

Pulp Fiction

Thanks to The Bump, via tha google machine, I learned that Robert is a German name meaning “bright hope”. It originated as the Germanic name Hrodebert. As a title it means “bright flame”

For the abridged version: my name went from Germanic noblemen > German commoners > my drunk great-uncle > Me.

What is the meaning of your first name? Its significance, etymology, etc.
