The Choice of a New Generation…and Rob

What is your favorite drink?

GROWN UP CONFESSION TIME: I don’t like coffee. I’ve tried it. I can tolerate it with a bunch of cream and sugar in it, but it’s not really my thing. However, I am a caffeine junkie. So I have to get my fixed from somewhere.

And that somewhere is Pepsi.

I’m not one of those snooty hipster types. I won’t refuse Coke if it’s offered at a restaurant. I’ll drink either one in a pinch, but I definitely prefer Pepsi. I can handle the zero sugar variety, and every now and then the regular drink just gets to be a bit too much for me. In fact , as I’m starting to get back to the gym on a regular basis, I find myself drinking less and less of the stuff.

I know the sugar is horrible for my anatomy. Also, I’ve heard the stories about people dropping pennies in the cups full of Diet Coke; only to have the Diet Coke separate the copper from the coin, but I’m hooked.

If I get myself anywhere near back to where I was working out 10 years ago, I will probably wean myself off of soda altogether. I guess in that case, I will have to get my caffeine fix from hot cocoa.

Grew up drinking regular Pepsi. Somewhere along the line, I switched over to diet coke and then coke zero. Somehow it all seems suspect, so I limit how much I have. I imagine the product is engineered to produce desire for more whenever we drink it.

I have no doubt that the drink’s addictive nature is somehow engineered into it.

I have also heard that caffeine is just an addictive as any other narcotic, which I’m sure doesn’t help.

I read a book called “Hooked” by Michael Moss about all the things that food companies do to keep us munching and crunching. While I understand the market pressures, I don’t appreciate being manipulated by the companies.

Also, I’ve heard aspartame, the artificial sweetener in those diet sodas, is actually worse for you than sugar.

      You’re damned if you do… 🤷‍♂️

For sure. That is why I limit how much diet pop I drink. I just can’t justify drinking sugared soda, even if it is better than aspartame.

I had a very nice encounter with my dentist last year. The first thing she told me was:”I’m sorry to say, but you need to limit your consumption of Coke, be it Classic or Zero, if you continue, your teeth will rot away.”

That was a wake up call and I haven’t touched any coke since. I even read in an article from another doctor, that it’s even harmful for your bones. Basically every soda is unhealthy in one way or another.

Remember Karl Lagerfeld, the legendary fashion designer, who died a few years ago. He always drank diet coke, basically his whole life. In the end, his teeth literally rot away.

Addiction is hard to break, but I’ve been drinking the stuff A LOT less frequently in the last week or so.

I really am trying to make the switch over to coffee, just because I’m still hooked on the caffeine, and there is so much other bad stuff in soda

I know, habits are so hard to break. I love coffee to death. Coffee is my drug of choice, although I don’t drink as much now as I did years ago.

I grew up on sodas. But generally drink water or ice tea now. Too much of everything in a soda for my taste now.

I have to admit that my tolerance for soda is getting a lower and lower. I’ve actually been cutting back on it in the last week or so, so hopefully this is a sign of progress!

Yeah. Knowing what is in it didn’t matter for me. Kind of like cigarettes (I don’t smoke). But it has a lot more texture than I want from a beverage.
