Giving out flowers

About two years ago, I heard the expression “giving people their flowers” for the first time while watching pro wrestling. Maybe I’m just a little clueless, maybe it is a common expression, but it stuck with me.

The expression is a reference to giving people their praise, telling them how you really feel about them, while they’re still around.  If you think about, when people are given flowers in their lives – particularly men – it’s not until they die. Women get flowers all the time, but that’s another story for another day.  It’s important to give people their flowers, either literally or figuratively when they are still around

I want to give flowers to some of my fellow WordPress bloggers., I’m going to provide some links to some of the bloggers who I interact with, who interact with me, and quite frankly who I find to be entertaining and inspiring. This list is not all inclusive, and it is not in any order of greatness, so here goes.

It’s Amy, I said.  The tagline on Amy’s blog describes it as “poems, prose and quirkiness abound”.  She’s a great storyteller and her poetry has a way of connecting with the reader on a deeply emotional level.  Plus her quick-witted sense of humor tells you that she’s thinking about 3 steps ahead of the rest of us.

The beginning at Last – I find Kevin to be something of a kindred spirit, like me, he writes about his own struggles with insecurity and self-doubt.  As deep as Kevin’s writing is, his AI artwork leaves an equally lasting impression on his readers.

My Life with Myelofibrosis – Chris is a cancer survivor, expatriate and former journalist who uses his blog to revisit his boatload of past experiences while moving into the future.  He’s got a thing for classic mythology and AI art.

Lifelong Education Blog – Allen is a school teacher, history buff and baseball junkie, which means he and I always give each other a lot of input on our posts!.  As with everyone else on this list, Allen’s work inspires me to keep pushing the boundaries of my own creativity and narrative approach

Adam Fenner – Adam shares his life experiences through his poems. I find myself sitting and analyzing his work long after reading it. I WISH I had  even one-quarter of his creativity!

My Gen X Life – In one of the more unique blogs that I follow, this writer discusses his life experiences and ties them into the music of our  generation. He has also created a Spotify playlist for every song he mentions in his posts.  He’s kind of like Superman in that I don’t even know his real name

Inside the Red Head’s Head – same name, fellow ginger and Star Wars fan, Rob talks about his personal life following gastric bypass surgery, work life and his beloved 1979 Gibson ES-335 Pro. She is a beauty!

50 Happens – Another fellow Gen Xer, Mary’s stories remind me that hard work does pay off and happily ever after is a real thing.

Taking Each Day Free – Liz claims that her life is “ordinary” but her insight is anything but!  One thing that stands out for me on Liz’s blog is that she takes a lot of cues from other bloggers, and provides links to many other resources. A reading of one of her posts will almost always lead you to someone else’s work.

Darcy Branwyn – In addition to responding to WordPress’ daily prompt, Darcy also showcases her romance fiction on her blog. Always looking to hone her craft, Darcy will often initiate conversations with her readers “Hey,everybody i need insight on this…”  leading to some insightful conversions.

My apologies if I did not mention your blog… yet. I’m hoping this will be the first of many of these “Friday flower” posts. I wanted to mention many others, but I figured i better stop at 10 for now. If you would like me to mention you in a future post like this, feel free to put a link in the comments.

I was a little worried that a handful of us all follow each other. So I was trying to spread it out a little bit.

Same. I try to mix it up between the more experienced bloggers and the newer ones to give everyone a nice list.

This is a wonderful thing you’ve done here! I recently wrote a letter to someone with a terminal illness in the same spirit — letting him know how I feel before it’s too late. Giving out flowers is a kind and human thing to do.

I had a feeling that a handful of us all follow each other, but this is really my first foray into doing one of these link pages
