I think something that most people don’t understand is the common universality among most humans.
Happiness, family, a place to call home, a warm meal in our belly, how to live a good life – these are some of the human characteristics at transcend race, ethnicity, nationality, political, affiliation, or religion. Collectively, we as humans have so much more in common with each other than we don’t.
Look at most of your major monotheistic religions of the world: will you call your supreme being God, Allah, Yahweh, or whatever, most religions, follow, two basic tenants: teaching its followers, how they’re supposed to live their life, and answering the questions that science is not already provided the answers to.
Even closer to home. Here in America, two major political parties, both written blue, pretty much want the same thing: they want to see the country doing well. They want to see people working. They want to see people happy and healthy.
Perhaps my all-time favorite story, from all of human history, is the World War I soldiers, who laid down their weapons, and had Christmas Day dinner on the battlefield together. Those guys got it. They were all young, cold, tired, and hungry. They missed their families, and they hated war that they were being told to fight by their governments, being forced to kill people who they had no beef with.
Before any of you accuse me of choosing one side, over the other, hear me out: even with the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, both sides want the same thing: they want a place to call home. They want to live life peacefully and in safety.
The problem with the world is the people in power on the power-hungry pricks who want to seize that power. There are some people who are so pathetic, and so insecure that they feel like they have to oppress other people in order to feel strong and powerful themselves. The thought that should terrify people in powers that there are a lot more of us “little people” than there are of them.
Ethnic minorities, the poor, people of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ community don’t have an agenda. They’re not looking to eradicate the white heterosexual Christian way of life. They just want equal treatment. They want representation. They want a seat at the proverbial table. Just like everybody.
Here in America, i don’t think most people want to see the second amendment be abolished. I don’t think most of us even want to see guns go away. But we want some legal protection and some human decency so that our politicians answer to our desire to feel safe and protected, isn’t: “maybe you should wear a bulletproof backpack”
These things should be so obvious. Even thinking it, I know that I come across as preachy to some people. Why doesn’t everybody understand this shit?
All right. Now I’m in a bad mood. I need to put a smile on my face; so here’s some cats in mosh pits:
