Rob’s Men’s March Madness Update – day 5

Ouch. I knew this was going to happen eventually. My bracket is officially busted. I mean, it was after the first day, but it’s kind of past the point of no return now. I’ll explain that in a few minutes. In the meantime, some notes follow below my bracket.

  • I went 1-3 and the four games played Friday night.
  • I had UConn beating number 5 seed San Diego State. I know: bold prediction. It was the only one I had right for the night.
  • Technically, Illinois, and Alabama winning were somewhat upsets. However, at this point, with the seedings being as close as they are, I don’t think they could really be viewed as such.
  • The upset that really got a lot of people’s attention was Alabama beating number one seed North Carolina. I had the Tar Heels winning that game as well.
  • With Alabama and Clemson advancing to the “elite eight“ in the western region, the west portion of my bracket is officially shot; as I had North Carolina and Arizona advancing.
  • To that end, I am completely out BOTH of tonight’s Houston/Duke game and Oregon/Tennessee games – as I had Wisconsin and Oregon advancing to the elite eight and they are both already eliminated. The BEST I can hope to do with tonight’s games is 2-2. I took the liberty of preemptively marking those two games as losses for me.
  • The above point means that I need Marquette and Purdue to win today if there is any hope of keeping my south and Midwest regions alive.

        That’s pretty good 🙂

….Unless there were only 3 people playing, LOL.
