What’s goin’ on

In case you didn’t pay any attention to the news yesterday, Iran began firing rockets at Israel yesterday/last night. According to CNN “the vast majority“ of the Iranian rockets and drones were shot down / intercepted.

Maybe it’s because of my age, or maybe it’s because the world is getting as crazy as it is; but I’ve reached the point in my life where there’s not a whole lot that really surprises me anymore. This attack alone isn’t too shocking. After all, Iran has been threatening to do it for some time.

But when Iran is attacking Israel, and Israel is attacking Gaza, and Russia is still attacking Ukraine, it gets to be a bit much. Something has to give here.

These aren’t shooting stars…

People can argue about the Middle East until they are literally blue in the faces. Each of the major world religions has a legitimate claim, and saying that it is their holy land. But the fact of the matter is, we are living, where, and when we are living here in 2024, and the political geographical lines are what they are. I probably have two oversimplified of a view on the whole matter. After all, I could really care less about organized religion, let alone, disorganized religions.

People can either continue, blasting the shit out of each other, and perpetuating, countless generations of conflict and bloodshed; or they can try to figure out a solution in which nobody gets everything that they want, but are able to live with a solution. That has to be a better alternative to endless conflict.

There is too much insanity right now. I ask myself, “Can it get any crazier?” Then I turn on the news and it answers my question.

It’s like when somebody says “this is surreal”. My responses “yeah, but here we are living in it”

I, too, have said many times there is a lot of crazy shit going on right now, but then I think back to the scale of the First and Second World Wars, and feel I can safely make the assumption that the folks back then said the exact same thing. I don’t think the times we are living in are all that unique after all. I think we tend to think it is worse because we are bombarded with it 24/7.
And this is not meant to diminish the current world climate, merely an observation on how we perceive it.

No, I think you’re absolutely right!

I think the 24 hour news cycle and social media in particular I’ve just exposed us to more stuff that people do. So it gives us the impression that the world is just becoming a crazier place.

Like take a Babe Ruth for instance: back in the day, reporters didn’t write about him being a rampaging drunk and a womanizer, but we know about him now

The world doesn’t want us to have heroes anymore.

I think we love to build people up as heroes. And then we equally love to knock them off their pedestal.

It’s become society’s favorite past time, as pathetic as that is.
