Rob revisits: a blueprint for 2024 – a progress report at the midway point

This past December, I wrote a post called a blueprint 24. It was by far the most comprehensive written attempt I have ever made at goal-setting for a calendar year. As I see our calendar turning to June, I’m realizing that this year is nearly halfway over. I figured it was about time to revisit this list and see how things are going for me. A link to the original article is below

I scored each of the following ten points on the following scale”

  • Progress
  • Minimal progress
  • No improvement/ idle
  • Regression

1. To lose weight/ get in better shape.

I haven’t been to the gym quite as consistently as I would like to be. Part of that is my age and my need for rest days. Sometimes it’s out of sheer laziness. Nevertheless, I have made a more consistent effort to get to the gym or even do a workout at home on a regular basis. And while I’ve only lost about 5 pounds so far, I can absolutely feel myself getting stronger. There are certain machines at the gym that I am adding more to every time I work out. When I get on the treadmill, I find myself continuously. I am seeing definite results. At this point, I need to continue to kick things up to the next proverbial level.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: PROGRESS

2. To get involved in some kind of volunteer/charity work.

OK. This is one area where I have definitely dropped the ball. I have some thoughts on what I would like to do in the way of charity work, but I have not acted on it. If you were to ask me today, I still think I would wanna do something with some dog rescue/she means society/SPCA

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: IDLE

3. Enroll in graduate school.

This is an area has made some progress, I’ve begun the process of looking at graduate schools. I just need to pull the trigger. Of course, so that I need to once again confront my student loan debt. I think that may be the biggest reason I’ve been putting this off.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: MINIMAL PROGRESS

4. To read at least one book every month

I hit the wall with Anna Karenina back in January and I haven’t picked it up since. There are other books I want to read and I think it’s time I make a change

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: IDLE

5. To watch at least one “new to me” movie every month; or complete one season of “new to me“ TV series every month.

I’ve probably seen more new movies in the last six months and I had in the previous four years. Having said that, they’re still more new stuff that I would like to see.

On the TV front, I’ve been making my way through the TV series MASH and I’m now on the 11th and final season.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: PROGRESS

6. To move into a new place.

I’m still in the same place where it was six months ago. However, I am picking up one – and possibly two – summer jobs. With that, I’m hoping to finally start saving some money and potentially get into new digs.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: IDLE

7. Cutting the cable.

I haven’t spoke to my doctor about it yet, but it is something I still want to do. With my school year winding down, I will have more free time on my hands and I plan to make the call.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: IDLE

8. Start playing bass guitar again, or some other instrument.

I picked up my base a couple of times, but at this point, it looks like it needs to be restrung. I started playing around with the distortion pedal, but I was a little bit, disappointed with the one. Likewise, this is something that I would like to explore more during my summer break.

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: MINIMAL PROGRESS

9. Visit at least three new MLB stadiums this summer.

Kid ones gymnastics tournament in April allowed me and kid an opportunity to visit truest park in Atlanta. I already have tickets bought and paid for a game in Cincinnati for Independence Day weekend. Still, I’m looking to visit at least one more new MLB stadium this summer. Of course, I’m willing to substitute at MiLB stadium if need be.

Midpoint assessment: PROGRESS

10. Improve my finances.

I’m still treading water. But as I mentioned earlier, I have a summer school teaching possession lined up, as well as possible position working part time at the local independent league baseball stadium

MIDPOINT ASSESSMENT: IDLE

To be honest, this went better than I expected. Yes, there are 5 areas that I listed as “idle/no progress”; but the whole reason I did this was to see where I’m at, and what I still need to work on. Three areas showed progress ans two areas I scored as “minimum progress”. Again, the important thing is that I keep moving forward.
