List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?

I love the idea of lists like this, in theory. My problem is sometimes trying to create a list like this in reality. This list is subject to change at anytime. There are a lot of book I’ve read over the years that I found to be highly entertaining; ones that I would actually go back to and re-read in the same way that many of us like to rewatch our favorite movies. Finding a book that is inspirational – or even influential – in my personal life, that takes a lot. Having said that, these are the top three books, off the top of my head, that I would consider to be the most influential on me currently.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X – as told to Alex Haley

it’s kind of hard for me to put into words the impact this book had upon my life. I tried to go into it with an open mind, but I wasn’t really expecting to glean much from the life of Malcolm. However, he was self educated, not like Frederick Douglass. he seemed to place an extraordinary importance on time; even going as far as saying that he knew that he was going to meet a violent untimely death one day.

It’s no mistake that I listed The Autobiography… firdt on this list. I read this book probably 20 years ago and it has made probably the most profound impact upon my life of anything on this post. This one has some power.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck – Mark Manson

This is one of the more popular self-help books of recent times. The title itself is a little deceiving. Man since ultimate point in the story is not to not give a fuck about anything; rather, it is to be more selective about what fucks people give different things in life. The subtle art… taught me a lot about prioritizing

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell – Tucker Max

I was a little surprised I named this book as well. For those who haven’t read it, Max begins his writing career as a blogger, and eventually compiled several of his and notes from college into this, his first book. Wasn’t anything profound I took from Max stories, or his philosophy, the book did serve as somewhat of an inspiration for this blog.

I think a lot of people can’t get past the title – whether it’s because they’re prudish or they just can’t take the book seriously afterward.

The subtle art of not giving a fuck – Mark Manson I have not read. But I know many bloggers have and gave good reviews for the book.

I think a lot of people end up misunderstanding the title. But I guess I’m really deep inside into a lot of stuff, the kind of things that I’ve given a lot of thought to and apparently the author did as well.

I saw the Manson book at the book store the other month. It’s been on my mind ever since. I may have to pick it up
