My Detroit Tigers Coat

What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

The oldest thing that I use every day is my anatomy. 50 years 28 days as of this posting. I use this shell every single day. I would like to get at least two more decades out of it.

But in all seriousness, the oldest thing that I still use on a regular basis, just not during the summertime, is my Detroit Tigers dugout style jacket. I probably got the thing in 2004. I wash it and take care of it, but it’s definitely starting to show its age.

I originally got it when I was working as an usher at Comerica Park during the Tigers baseball season. It probably the warmest, yet lightest -weight coat that I have ever owned. For that reason, I usually wear it through most of the winter, at least until the weather gets extremely cold.

I like to avoid wearing really heavy coats as much as I can, even during the Michigan winters. Because once I get into my car, or a building, I feel way too, bunched up and get way too warm wearing it. For that reason, the Tiger dugout jacket has been an excellent go-to for me.

it’s kind of sad when I stop and think about it. At 20 years, this Coat made it with me through South Carolina, including 2/3 of my marriage, my entire long-term relationship with X2, and my whole life as a divorcee.
