A Random Act of Kindness 2024

Daily writing prompt
Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

I’ve officially reached the point where WordPress is recycling old prompts from roughly one year ago. In fact, the next several days worth of prompts are one from roughly 12 months ago. I suppose I’m cheating a little bit by embedding my original post. But since I didn’t write much of anything on this one, I figured I would “revisit” it.

I’ve never really been one to perform tremendously large acts of kindness for other people. This is not because I haven’t wanted to, but I feel like I don’t always have the means. If I was independently wealthy, I would donate massive sums of money to people. In my world of world, that’s what I would do. I would kind of be like Bruce Wayne. A philanthropist.

But the truth is, most of my random act of kindness consist of small, every day things: holding a door for someone when I’m entering or exiting a store. Maybe giving someone an extra dollar or some loose change when I see the little short for something at a store. I’d like to help people whenever I have to do so. And I’m also a firm believer in the idea that little things do add up to big things. For instance, I’m helping someone put a couple of bucks of gas in their car that would make a difference and their day; which intern, I hope they would ultimately pay forward. That’s what “random act of kindness” entails: doing things for other people when you’re in a situation where you can help out.

What is a random amount of kindness that you have performed for someone?
