Today is Veterans’s Day here in America, or Remembrance Day in Canada, or Armistice Day in the UK. Whatever you call it, today marks the end of World War I – a war that used to be referred to as “ the Great War” or “The War to End All Wars”.
It’s hard to relieve, given the date of the world today, that there was actually a time when people believed that humans had evolved beyond armed conflict.
The World War I veterans have all since passed, as the war ended over a century ago. Even the remaining World War II veterans are at advanced ages.
But there have been plenty of armed conflicts since WWII. And – at least here in America – Veteran’s Day is a day to acknowledge ALL veteran of our armed forces.
If you know a veteran, or if you see one today, thank them for their service. America has not had a draft in decades – military service is NOT something American have to do.
