I really like this prompt, but fact is that my pet peeves have not changed since I originally responded to this prompt last year. With that in mind, I will attempt to say something new about my 3 biggest pet peeves:
Being late
Growing up, my family was “the late one”. It felt low we were late for everything: school, doctor’s appointments, Cub Scout meetings. I’m sure that it wasn’t easy for mom with 3 children – each one being two years apart from the other. But I think it all came down to my mom’s inability to get out of the house in time.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve adopted the military philosophy to punctuality: “ if you have a meeting at 10 and get there at 10, you’re late. If you have a meeting at 10, and get there at 9:55, you’re on time”.
I think I also have a little bit of social anxiety about arriving to places “fashionably late”. I hate being the person that everybody looks at when I intro room. I would much rather get to a place early, be one of the first people there, and I feel like people are coming in to see me.
Being Unprepared
I could probably find a dozen memorable quotes about being prepared. For me, it all goes back the Boy Scout motto “be prepared”. Going into something unprepared shows a lack of motivation, and quite honestly, a lack of respect for what you are about to do.
Being Ignorant
Let me be clear, I don’t have a problem with people not having all the facts about something- as long as there is a willingness to learn. My pet peeve is people who don’t have all the facts and are refuse to become informed. Some people bask in their ignorance; especially when they think that have. All the facts about something.
