It’s that time of year again when instead of rebuilding, Rob is reflecting. I love this time because it allows me to reflect on the past year as well as look ahead to the future.
The ballpark chase continues
My original plan was to get to 3 more Major League ballparks this year. I was hoping to hit Chicago, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Of those 3, I only made it to Cincy but I also made a somewhat impromptu trip to Atlanta. Kid 1 had a gymnastics meet in Georgia; so Kid 2 attended it and spent an extra day in Atlanta to see a Braves game on their home opening weekend. Unlike last year’s games in Pittsburgh and Chicago, I made a point to also schedule tours of both ballparks.
LESSON LEARNED: John Lennon was right. Life really is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans. I wish I had done Milwaukee and Chicago over the summer, but getting Atlanta in there was a pleasant surprise.

Peace in my life
As of this writing, I am not in a relationship. Not only am I content in that, but I’m also happy. Don’t me wrong, I still love courting and coupling; but right now, I’m not ready to be in an exclusive, committed relationship. It’s not like I haven’t had opportunities either…
Things are actually going well with X1 AND X2 right now. That usually does not last long however. Dealing with them is not unlike a game of Whack-a-mole.
LEASON LEARNED: before you can be happy in a relationship, you have to learn how to be happy on your own. Every now and then, you reach a point where you decide your happier alone and then he would be with another person.
The kids are alright
Perhaps a strong part of the reason that things are relatively calm with X1 and X2 is because both kid 1 and kid 2 seem to be doing fairly well right now. kid one will be graduating from high school in less than six months. Just say that I’m a little overwhelmed that that prospect is kind of an understatement. He’s in the midst of making some very typical teenage mistakes right now: he’s completely flipped for a girl; so X1 and I are hoping that that honeymoon phase will end soon for him. Likewise, kid 2 is doing great right now as well. He seems to be getting more comfortable and more confident with school every day. The growth and development in him is just astounds me.
