As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What do you like and dislike about living alone?
Phred and I have had discussions about the pros and cons of living alone. I remember, even back when I was still with X one and even X2, she said to me:
The great thing about living alone is that you can do what you want, when you want. Do you want to eat late? Eat cereal for dinner? Eat pizza for breakfast? You can. Because it’s just you”
All of this is true. Another great thing about living alone is you can decorate your home or apartment or your room however you see fit. You don’t have to worry about having things that are conducive to “the happy couple or even “the family“.

The bad thing about living alone is just that: you are alone. It’s Sunday night when I’m writing this post and I just took kid to back to meet up with his mother after another kid weekend. I was experiencing the “kid hangover“. The place is quiet. I try to occupy myself, to get my mind off how much I miss him, but it doesn’t always work. There’s just a certain emptiness when he’s not around.
More often than that, cooking and meal prep are difficult when one is alone. It’s hard enough cooking for two. Cooking for one seems pointless most of the time. To that end, I think prepping meals is important. Maybe for a few days at a time, maybe even for a week. When I do meal prep, I usually just buy and cook some ground beef, some ground turkey, or even some chicken. From there, I will try to make a few different meals out of whatever meat I happen to cook up. This is much more efficient than trying to just cook every night. Likewise, it’s a lot more cost-effective than eating out every single night.
At the same time, I think that every adult needs to live on their own for a time. Just in the same way that I think it’s important that adults spend time outside of an exclusive, committed relationship. One has to really find out exactly who they are as a person; and the best way to do that is to be single and live alone for a time.
