Nocturnal Comtemplations

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What do you think about as you are falling asleep?

I try not to think of anything as I’m trying to fall asleep. As someone who has had issues with anxiety in the past, I can say that if my mind gets too preoccupied with too many thoughts, I won’t be able to fall asleep.

Sleep playlists work!

For the last few weeks, I’ve been alternating between 2 different Spotify playlists. On one, the music claims to be at “the natural frequency of the universe”. The other lists includes tracks aimed at clarity of thought, relaxation and things of that sort. The tracks in both lists can probably be described as “new age”. I don’t usually buy in to the hype surrounding this kid of “new age” stuff, but I can’t argue with their effectiveness. The first few times I listened to either list, i had gotten the absolute best sleep I’ve ever experienced in my life. I feel like the lists are a little less “effective” the more I listen to them; which is why I alternate between the two. At this point, I may even go ahead and add a 3 playlist to “the rotation” – just because I want to have the deep sleeping experience again.

My CPAP is still a game-changer!

Between my anxiety and my sleep apnea, I’ve never been good at sleeping. I like sleep. I wish I could get more of it. I try to practice sleep. I’ve just never gotten the hang of it. With this in mind, my CPAP machine was a game-changer, as I previously wrote about HERE. But these Spotify playlists are changing the proverbial game once again.

Also, I’ve been working out – albeit sporadically. The problem is, when I don’t work out for a few days, o have a harder time falling asleep. In some respects, I guess I’m like a little kid in this regard. Just as it was with Kid 1 and Kid 2, the trick to getting me to fall asleep is just running me into the ground, I suppose.

Keep it cool!

I’ve heard that the ideal temperature for sleeping is 68 Fahrenheit (20 Celsius). As I’ve gotten older, I find that I like it around that temperature everywhere – in my home, at night, in my classroom. I tend to “run hot”. That’s a polite way of saying that I sweat like a pig; so much, in fact, that I seldom wear long sleeves. I like to be cool, but not necessarily cold. This is even more true when it comes to sleeping.
