Rebuilding Rob

The annual NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament began in earnest yesterday. Yeah, I don’t count the First Four. Sue me. Here’s what my bracket looks like so far:

Of the 16 games played yesterday, I successfully picked 14 winners. That’s right. I went 14-2 yesterday.

Because I watched ZERO college basketball this season, I used a comparison tool on espn.com to gel me with my picks. In many cases, I went with the higher seeded teams. However, I tend to get a little “upset crazy” and pick more than a few underdogs. Here are some notes:

• In the south, #9 seed Creighton beat #8 seed Louisville. With such close seeding, that not a shocking upset. This was one where the EAPN tool was a ca tor in my pick. I don’t think most people expected a 15 point win however.
• In the west, there was another upset when #10 Arkansas beat #7 Kansas. This was one of my two losses of the day.
• On the flip side, the Midwest region saw #10 Utah Stat fell to #7 UCLA. Apparently, I was getting “that feeling” from Utah State. Wrong.
• Also in the Midwest, #12 McNesse beat #5 Clemson in what was perhaps the biggest upset of the day. I actually had McNeese winning this one.
• Beyond this notable exceptions, the tournament has gone the way that most people should expect: higher seeded teams eliminating the lower seeded teams. Every now and then, the selection committee.l gets these seedings right.

There’s 16 more games on tap for today. I’ll be curious to see how everything shakes out for the rest of the weekend.
