As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
Is there a fandom that you simply do not understand?
One fan base that I simply cannot understand are Dead Heads – fans of the Grateful Dead.
Are DEAD heads even a thing anymore? I know Jerry Garcia died years ago, but the surviving band members have been touring over the years as βdead and companyβ I also know that for a time Pbish unofficially became the successor to the dead head phenomenon. In fact, until I was looking it up just now, I didnβt realize that the band had only broken up from 2004 to 2008 and has been back together ever since.
I also recall a stint in the late 90s, maybe even the early 2000s, where the Dave Matthews Band seem to be the spiritual successor to the Grateful Dead Legacy. Obviously, musically they are a different, but I mean this in the sense that fans almost envisioned themselves as modern day hippies. They wanna go and listen to the music, however, mediocre it may be, and just get high.
And therein lies the rub. Thatβs the thing I have never really understood about the deadhead. To be honest, their music has never really done anything for me. I think I just have a hard time understanding why anybody actually likes to music. Maybe the truth is no one really cares about Grateful Dead music, they just want an excuse to get high. And if people wanna smoke pot and get high, thatβs their business. Iβve just never understood why you pretend to like some really mediocre band as some kind of cover
Iβm sure theyβre all, or were, very talented musicians. But as a recovering metal head, Iβve always been more into music that gets me pumped up, music that gets loud; as opposed to music to just relax to.
