Rob Reacts: “Jarren Duran reveals suicide attempt amid mental health struggles “

I was perusing around on threads like I often do, and I came across this post from Ben Verlander. he was talking about Jarren Duran, a player for the Boston Red Sox, who was contemplating suicide during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. This ESPN article goes into a little bit more detail about the story, which will be featured on the upcoming Netflix docuseries “The Clubhouse: A Year With Red Sox”

I mentioned this today, just as a reminder that no one – no matter how good one’s life is, or how good one’s life seems to be – no one is immune from struggling with mental illness. Also, to remind people that there is a difference between being depressed and suffering from depression. Here is a major league, baseball player colon guy who, by all accounts, has got a great life. He’s been on baseball cards and he’s been featured in video games. Even a professional athlete is not immune from depression and suicidal thoughts.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to dealing with something like that, while in such a high profile occupation. He has sports writers talking daily about how he does his job. There’s people all over social media constantly scrutinizing everything he does and says. I think that alone might be enough to make me snap. To rewrite an old expression: the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side.
