As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

Are there any symbols of wealth that don’t appeal to you, even if you had the money for it? (e.g. luxury cars)

Considering that I’ll almost certainly never be wealthy, luxury items is a subject I don’t give a lot of thought to.

No bling

I can say that I’ve never been a big jewelry guy. Even when I was married, I almost never wore my wedding ring. That wasn’t any kind of ominous for sharing of my eventual divorce. Rather, it was because I have chronic eczema and the skin on my hands was getting worse. The older I got. So having a ring on there that would collect dirt and sweat underneath it got uncomfortable at times.

Even with this in mind, I’ve hardly ever worn watches, I’ve never worn bracelets or necklaces. I’ve just never been my thing. I did a class ring when I was in high school, but I could probably count on one hand then more times I actually wore it. For some people, jewelry is a luxury item, particularly big Gotti jewelry. I have no interest in it.

Not really a boat guy

I’ve never been a boat guy. I’m sure this is, and poor, because both of my parents were never about people. Even if they were, I don’t know that about is something we could’ve afforded when I was a child. It may have been, but it would’ve been one of those situations where my parents would’ve sacrificed in order to have about.

Having said that, I never really understood the appeal of boat life or ocean life… Until I lived in South Carolina. Living about 30 minutes outside of Charleston, I began to feel the cold of the ocean, the beach, the carefree lifestyle. It was at this time that I finally started to appreciate the music of Jimmy Buffett.

Cars are for driving

In fact, the closest I would probably ever come to owning an actual “luxury item “would probably be an expensive car. Even then, I would be very picky about what I would or would not buy.

As far as cars are concerned, I can’t say that I would never own a sports car or some other luxury car like a Cadillac Escalade or even Ford F150, if I had the money. I think because I have always been a relentlessly middle class guy, practicality has always been king. With that in mind, I can tell you that BMW, as a brand has never appealed to me. I just don’t think they are very attractive cars. Furthermore, I think that some of the people who buy BMWs only buy them because they are BMWs and they can say “i own BMW“. The same goes for people Who drive a Mercedes. If I ever did become insanely wealthy, I can say with certain that I would probably never own it either of them Mercedes or a BMW. They’ve just never appealed to me.
