Cancer sucks!

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

Which disease known to humankind do you hate the most?

This is an easy one. Cancer. I hate cancer more than any other disease known to man.

It gets pretty personal with me and cancer. The old man died of cancer. Mother is a 10 year plus cancer survivor. My aunt on my mom’s side, and my dad‘s mother also died of cancer.

I don’t know any patients personally, but my heart absolutely goes out to those pediatric cancer patients. I mean, how can I not?

Jesus, does anybody like cancer? I think that is one thing that pretty much all humanity can agree on. Cancer sucks.

The Reverend, an old friend of mine from college, who I think I’ve talked about in the past on this blog, it’s currently living in California. He went to school to study cancer. I remember one time he was telling me that sharks are completely immune to cancer.

Every now and then I’m coming, you hear those conspiracy theories that “they” have a cure to cancer, and that they don’t release it because the healthcare industry makes too much money off of people dying of cancer. I hope to hell that is not true. If it is, that is a very sorry statement for humanity.

But to end things on a positive note, I am absolutely floored by the amount of information. We do actually have about cancer today. There’s a lot of people who end up getting treated for cancer and go on to live very normal lives. In many cases, it’s not a death sentence anymore. I look forward to the day when cancer, in any and all of it’s various forms is just a thing of the past.

Sharks are supposedly immune to cancer, but I’ve heard a few stories that the increasing pollution in the oceans is showing signs of stressing and breaking down their immune systems. There are shark cartilage supplements out there which are supposed to help ward off cancer as well as restore joints.

The conspiracy theories… I believe there’s SOME truth to them. Look at the simplest logic to it: We all hear how much better, how advanced medicine is now. We’ve even mapped the vast majority of the human genome, have a solid handle on cloning, restoring dead species like the Dire Wolf, even crossing species that have no business being spliced together. BUT (yes, I know, never start a sentence with a conjunction 😛 )…

The last disease we cured was polio roughly 75 years ago. Oh we manage the hell out of diseases now though. AIDS is all but gone… so long as you keep taking the medicine to suppress it. Diabetes; more under control than ever if you keep taking the new meds. Nothing is cured though. There’s TONS of money in treatment and management, but none in cures.

Our “health care” system is definitely more about management that treatment.
