I know that I don’t know; and I know that I don’t care

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is something you know you should care more about, but you simply don’t?

With all due respect to the wisdom of Socrates…

A couple days ago, I wrote about the conflict that erupted between Israel and Iran earlier this week. I’d like to think that I’m somewhat knowledgeable on the topic of the politics of the Middle East. That is to say that I took a college course on the herb was really conflict about 20 years ago.

But, just as anybody who is actually trying to study the Arab-Israeli conflict will tell you, the more you learn about it, the more you realize that you don’t know much about it at all.

I understand that the region is very much the birthplace of three of the world‘s major religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. I understand that war between the Israeli and the Muslims, led to some of the holy sites of both religions being conquered, destroyed, and rebuilt upon.

I also know that following World War II, the United States was a staunch supporter of the formation of an Israeli state. as I was writing the other day, the United States very much had the best and interest in the formation of a new state in the region. This gave my country a foothold in the Middle East. Because of that, American support for Israeli actions is almost on questioned, no matter what they do, including the annihilation of the Gaza Strip and the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

But the truth is. I don’t care. I know that I should know more about all of the things going on in Middle East. I know they should care more about all the things going on in the Middle East, because there are some honest to God humanitarian crises happening.

But I don’t care. I want United States out of the Middle East forever. I wanna see electric cars become a real thing so that the price of a barrel of oil gets so low, that’s a salty crown that goes flat broke.

I think people spend so much time in so much energy, interpreting their religious holy text, and being willing to die for them, that it’s impossible to come to a resolution in which all people are going to be satisfied.

I hate the Islamic Revolution. I hate the fact that when it took place, the women if Iran were blasted back into the 12th century. I want to see an honest to God change in Iran once again. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to come without some serious bloodshed.

I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few weeks between Iran and Israel. I don’t know if the United States is going to get involved. Hell, I don’t think Trump knows if the United States is going to get involved. His most recent statement last night said that he’ll come to a decision “within two weeks” this seems to be his go to, cop out answer to everything, every time he does not want to make an irreversible decision.

I don’t think we’ll see a draft again, even if the US gets involved in the Iran Israel conflict. But you never know. I never thought that a 34 time convicted felon would be eligible to run for president in the United States, let alone actually get reelected. And yet, here we are.

Kid one just turned 18. I’ll be attending college this fall. I think he would be “safe” from a draft. But as I said, nothing is guaranteed anymore. That, and given his chosen field of study, I think there’s a good chance that he would end up getting a job with the military in some form or another . So I’m praying that this conflict comes to a quick resolution for all parties involved.
